John Chan

Registered Physiotherapist, Registered Acupuncturist, FCAMPT, MCPA

John has been serving the Niagara Region of Ontario as a clinical physiotherapist for more than 25 years. He specializes in manual therapy, exercise prescription for various musculoskeletal problems, orthopaedic rehabilitation and chronic pain management. In addition, John also practices evidence-based acupuncture for conditions related to physiotherapy. This practice is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and can be used to treat various issues.

John Chan has been a registered physiotherapist since 1991. His early experiences include working in the Niagara-on-the-Lake General Hospital and the Hotel Dieu Hospital during the early 1990’s as a staff physiotherapist. Here, he worked independently in the Medical Unit, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Palliative, and the Orthopaedic Ward. His work in orthopaedic cases during this time was rich in variety and experience. They include pre- and post-surgical cases such as total joint replacement, covering total knee, hip and shoulder replacement.

Additionally, he completed his post-graduate education in orthopaedic physiotherapy, receiving the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s post-graduate Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2001.

John also has 15 years of home-visiting physiotherapy experience. They include a variety of cases, also covering orthopaedic care similar to those at the hospital at client homes. Lastly, John is a manual and manipulative therapist, obtaining the Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) in 2000. His other interests in the professional medical field lie with the pain-control and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) achieved by acupuncture. He studied acupuncture as related to physiotherapy and other medical problems, and is a registered Acupuncturist with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO). Furthermore, John is currently one of the teachers and an examiner in the Medical Acupuncture Program at McMaster University, which takes on an evidence-based approach. He has been practising acupuncture for more than 20 years.
